Bardet wins 12th stage, Aru takes overall lead

Britain's Chris Froome wearing the overall leader's yellow jersey crosses the finish line during the twelfth stage of the Tour de France cycling race over 214.5 kilometers with start in Pau and finish in Peyragudes France

Landa gained 1:46 on Aru and Froome to move up the standings. The finish came after the descent off the final climb of the Mur de Péguère, and a 10km flat run-in.

On the final climb, two groups formed.

The Tour organizers wanted a tightly bound race, and they're getting one.

"I'm not frustrated, it's just the race - maybe they wanted to win the stage".

A dramatic stage 12 was won by Romain Bardet, who also put himself in the frame for yellow as there was a dramatic tightening at the top of the general classification.

Patrick Rodgers shot a seven-under-par 64 to take a two-shot lead after the second round of the John Deere Classic in Silvis, Ill.

Statistic, quote and fact of the day after the 13th stage of the Tour de France, a 101-km ride from Saint-Girons on Friday.

He said he had visited the ski station with his parents to scout out the final climb. "It could be interesting because no one really knows what will happen".

"Yesterday (Thursday) was a difficult day for me but today I felt a lot better and we played a good strategic game with our team".

The day belonged to only one man in Barguil, who was overjoyed at beating a man who has served as his inspiration.

Froome began the day 18-seconds ahead of Aru and 51-seconds ahead of Bardet.

"It's not the end of the world", said Team Sky sports director Nicolas Portal, who saw some positives in Froome losing the yellow jersey. Meanwhile, the pressure of leading sits squarely on Aru's increasingly shaky-looking shoulders, and with six riders all within 92 seconds, it will be no easy task controlling the Tour.

Chris Froome, who looked punch-drunk in the Pyrenees, bounced back on Friday as the defending champion and his Sky team took back control. "We're ready for that".

"It's perfect for us", Froome said.

It was extra special too for having beaten his "idol" Contador - Il Pistolero, the gunslinger - in the sprint finish. "There may be big time gaps at the end of tomorrow's stage". "But I didn't have the legs to finish it off, it's as simple as that".

Kyle Larson's No. 42 Chevrolet failed inspection after qualifying, and he was stripped of his pole for the Nascar Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

It's an unusually short stage for a Grand Tour but it should be fast and fireworks are expected. "He'll definitely try some more", Astana manager Alexandre Vinokourov said. Linebacker Chris Spielman filed the class-action lawsuit in federal court in Columbus on behalf of current and former Ohio State football players.
