Barcelona Transfer Rumors 2017: Barça Open Talks With Liverpool for Philippe Coutinho

31 Julio 2017, 12:17 | Cornelio Vivanco

Barcelona's shortlist consists Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, Chelsea winger Eden Hazard and Spurs midfielder Dele Alli.

Understandably, Liverpool don't want to lose their best player, regardless of the fee being offered, and the Brazilian only signed a five year deal back in January.

The prospect of seeing a Barcelona-grade player may improve the chances of the Reds No. 10's transfer to the Camp Nou club being completed, but Liverpool surely wouldn't want to trade a talisman for a mere squad member.

That could still be to misunderstand Neymar's personal motivations, however, as well as to misunderstand his vast importance to Barcelona.

Whilst Liverpool have boosted their attacking options by signing Mohamed Salah and Dominic Solanke, they now face a battle to keep hold of playmaker Coutinho amid strong interest from Barcelona.

'Hopefully we can get 12 more months out of him, ' he told The Brazilian only signed the new deal a year ago but is still believed to have had his head turned by Barcelona interest.

Barcelona are long-term admirers of Coutinho and were heavily linked with the player earlier this summer as they seek to secure a long-term replacement for ageing midfield stalwart Andres Iniesta, whose current contract is due to expire in 2018.

The first two goals for Jurgen Klopp's side had been scored by Dominic Solanke and Georginio Wijnaldum as Liverpool continued their excellent pre-season form on their three-game tour of Germany. That he's able to play like that tonight in a very hard moment of the pre-season after all these sessions is good to see.

With another month to go before the transfer window shuts, a deal could be bashed out between Liverpool and the La Liga giants, however Carragher is hopeful the Reds will be able to squeeze another twelve months out of him.

Anfield officials have maintained that Coutinho is not for sale at any price and are still unwilling to part with last season's top scorer in spite of any lucrative offers.
